MESSAGE FROM THE CONFERENCE CHAIR

It gives me great pleasure to say a few words regarding International Virtual Conference on Public Health (IVCPH) organised by TIIKM in August 2020. This conference is special since it is virtual and this one-day conference is designed to enhance the knowledge of public health professionals, exchange information and discover new solutions to the issues during a period when so much is on hold. Many countries are on virtual lockdown and physical distancing and this conference will facilitate discussions on a wide range of topics related to improving health at all levels through collaboration and open dialogue and steering tomorrow’s agenda to improve research, education, healthcare, and policy outcomes. Participants will deliver latest research, program implementations and workforce developments related to find solutions to major health challenges of the world and set health agendas worldwide.

Currently the Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic has created worldwide panic and it is a major challenge for the health professionals to control this pandemic. The COVID-19 was first noticed in Wuhan, Hubei Province in China in December 2019 before it became a global pandemic. It is one of the largest pandemics the world has ever seen and World Health Organization (WHO) announced the outbreak of this new coronavirus disease, COVID-19, as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) in January, 2020. This disease is highly contagious and it leads to severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and mortality in some cases. Higher morbidity and mortality rate is reported in some high-risk groups such as the elderly and especially those co-morbidity.

On the positive note this pandemic has highlighted the importance of public health and the role of public health specialist. We should not only take preventive action but also encourage delegates to work together to achieve better health outcomes by establishing a unique public health networks using this virtual conference as a platform. It is one the premier conference in Public Health and it is hoped that the delegates will take advantage of making new networks to do better research and address the challenges of the new era.

We as public health professionals need to address some of these issues and influence our policy makers to act. It is important to consider how our actions today will be viewed by our future generations’ decades from now. Besides the normal speakers this conference will also have several plenary speakers who will provide the latest information in their field. Hope you will enjoy the conference and have good time.

Thank you!
